Firefly - "Ariel" (TV Episode Review #40)

While Serenity is stopping by on the planet Ariel, Simon has his own mission: find out what the Academy did to River.  He knows that the nearby Alliance-run hospital in the city could have some answers.  To do this, he persuades his crewmates into another mission: loot some medicine, to sell off in the Border planets.  There’s plenty of that at the hospital, too.  For both goals, the crew of Serenity will have to go on a hospital heist.

A bacterial disease has spread all over Atlantis, of which amnesia is its most damaging symptom.  Most of Atlantis’s personnel is infected, suffering from memory loss; and if a cure is not found in time, then it will kill hundreds of people.  An amnesiac Rodney McKay gets a message from himself, with one objective: find a woman named “Teyla.”

Red Dwarf - "Quarantine" (TV Episode Review #37)

Red Dwarf gets a distress call from an ancient Earth scientific outpost on an icy planet, sent by holographic scientist Dr. Hildegard Landstrom.  The boys from the Dwarf set out to investigate.  By this point, tensions between the boys are already high.  What starts as a routine checkup mission unravels into the boys clashing with each other for dominance, in a power struggle that brings them on the verge of eating each other alive.

Firefly - "Safe" (TV Episode Review #36)

Serenity has stopped by on a sparsely populated desert planet for a routine trade deal.  This planet seems remote enough, so Simon and River should be at low risk right here.  Both of the Tam siblings are advised to take a walk to a nearby town; and although Simon expresses concern that he and his sister could run into danger as fugitives, he’s rest assured that nothing bad will happen out here.

Before she was an Enforcer, Yayoi Kunizuka was the guitarist of a rock band authorized by the Sybil System.  However, she was also best friends with Rina Takizaki, the frontwoman of an unauthorized rock band.  Legally, these two musicians were not supposed to interact, let alone be friends—because according to Sybil, this was a danger to Yayoi’s hue.

Red Dwarf - "White Hole" (TV Episode Review #34)

 
The plot of “White Hole” could be best described as a perfect example of mission creep, which is when a goal or task that is first assumed to be easy suddenly unravels into a grander conflict with a wider scope than ever originally conceived.  In this case, Holly’s showing her wear and tear as a computer, so Kryten comes up with a complex plan to “reboot” and fix her.  At first, the plan seems to go smoothly… that is until it goes awry, putting all of Red Dwarf at risk.
